Creating a Common Operating Picture in a Hybrid Ecosystem

A Solution for Roberto

Roberto is based out of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and manages the operations of a national rail company. The company is a large national carrier with dozens of switching yards, thousands of Km of track, locomotives, and cars, with around 9000 employees to make it all happen. Roberto’s primary objective is to move the trains and cars around the country safely, and efficiently so that their clients get their goods and materials on time. Roberto and his team are judged on fuel cost overruns and meeting prescribed deadlines for pickup and delivery. To achieve these goals Roberto requires constant communication with the logistics team, the engineers, and clients to create an accurate operational window.

Roberto’s Problem

Roberto’s company has made an investment in hardware to improve communication between trains and the operations center. The goal was to offer communication via cellular and satellite to cover the thousands of Km of rails spread throughout the country. Additionally, they hired a company to deliver an application that offered AI dashboards and inventory management. When the solution was deployed it became difficult to manage and they did not see the expected operational improvements. They struggled to merge the data from two networks, into a single operational picture that the entire team could use. Now that they had invested and deployed hardware to hundreds of locomotives and equipment, they were being told they needed to buy new equipment to deliver the solution they required and they needed to pay for additional development of the application.

Open Source API and parsing data from over 500 sources

GSatTrack parses more data from satellite terminals than any other application in the market. We have worked with the network and hardware providers to maximize their capabilities for GPS tracking, 2-way data management, end-point support, and customization through raw code. Beyond satellite terminals, the GSatTrack application works with Smartphones, and other cellular-connected devices to bring speed and broadband capacity to the solution. Once the data has been ingested by the GSatTrack application, we break down walls with our open-source API allowing the end-user to share this information with other 3rd party applications at no cost and full support. This all combines to funnel the data and share when and where it is needed.

Roberto's Missing Piece

After Roberto had explained the current status and the desired end result, we set him up with a demonstration to show how the GSatTrack app could bring the solution together. With the ability to parse data from over 500 terminals, GSatTrack created a common operating window that offers security and scalability throughout the organization. Additionally, GSatTrack offers command and control functionality for 2-way devices for remote management and support. Then the open-source API was set up with a JSON post to their URL with WSSE security to address the AI-enabled application.
